How the project got its name
The project is called TILL, expanded as Trusted Independent Ledger Library. A till is the cash drawer: the oldest and plainest object in small-business bookkeeping, which is the audience.
It is the third name. The working title was SwissBooks, an earlier setup session locked in drovex, and a name we liked, ALPS, was killed by the Swiss trademark register. TILL was checked against Swissreg by paginating the complete result set for the query: 42 Swiss marks and 78 international ones, of which exactly one exact "TILL" mark is active, and it covers chemicals, industrial oils and tobacco.
That is a pre-filter and not legal clearance, and we will not describe it as clearance. The screen covered Switzerland only. EUIPO and USPTO are unsearched, and a Swiss attorney has to clear the relevant Nice classes before any money is spent on a filing.
The handle everywhere is `tillbooks`, because the bare `till` was taken on every namespace worth having. The CLI binary is still `till`, since a binary name owes nothing to a package name.
